Monaco and France are joining forces to support youth in the Mediterranean with the launch of the 4th edition of the J-MED project call. This initiative aims to support projects led by NGOs from the South and East shores of the Mediterranean, in partnership with NGOs from the North shore. Education, vocational training, socio-economic integration, mobility, social and solidarity entrepreneurship, as well as sports, are the preferred sectors for this project call.

Since its inception, the J-MED project call has supported 80 organizations in Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, and Mauritania, enabling the implementation of projects benefiting young people around the Mediterranean. With its success, the initiative has received nearly 400 proposals since its first edition in 2020. J-MED is an innovative and effective initiative to further localize Monaco and France’s support for Mediterranean actors and to support the emergence of the new generation of Mediterranean NGOs.

The collaboration between France and Monaco under J-MED provides avenues for action for young people engaged in various solidarity sectors in the Mediterranean region. The initiative supports small-scale associations operating on the outskirts of capitals. This year, the Fondation de France is joining the initiative, and the Institut Européen de Coopération au Développement (IECD)) will once again oversee the project call through its operator, the Réseau Méditerranée Nouvelle Chance.

The J-MED 2023 project call will be officially launched during the “Mediterranean Meetings” in Beirut, Lebanon, on October 25th. Interested consortia of NGOs will have until January 5, 2024, to submit their projects. This collaboration between Monaco and France in the field of development cooperation in Africa and the Mediterranean is part of a Partnership Convention signed in 2010. With the launch of this new edition of the J-MED project call, Monaco and France are strengthening their commitment to youth in the Mediterranean and continue to encourage change-making initiatives in countries around the Mediterranean.
